The Honorable J. Christopher Giancarlo served as the thirteenth Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Considered one of “the most influential individuals in financial regulation,” he also served as a member of the U.S. Financial Stability Oversight Council, the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, and the Executive Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
Giancarlo is Senior Advisor to Patomak Global Partners, the strategic advisory firm (https://patomak.com. He is also co-founder and Chairman of the Digital Dollar Project (https://digitaldollarproject.org), and a board director, advisor and investor in numerous public and private technology, digital asset and financial services companies.
Giancarlo has been recognized by Chambers as a leading U.S. attorney for “Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies,” named a “Top Innovator in Financial Markets” by TabbForum, and ranked among the ten foremost “Crypto Lawyers” by the American Crypto Association. He was appointed to the rank of Chevalier in the National Order of Merit by French President Macron in recognition of his expertise in cryptofinance.
Giancarlo holds a Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College Phi Beta Kappa and a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law. His first book, CryptoDad – The Fight for the Future of Money, chronicles his oversight of the world’s first regulated market for Bitcoin derivatives and the digital network transformation of financial services. His next book, The New Adventures of CryptoDad: The Quest for Financial Freedom in the 21st Century, will be published by Wiley in October 2026.
