Alex Manson

Alex was appointed Chief Executive Officer of SC Ventures in March 2018. In this role, Alex set up SC Ventures as a unit of Standard Chartered Bank to promote innovation, invest in disruptive technology and build new ventures to explore alternative business models in the financial sector. This resulted in 35+ new ventures, as well as 20+ minority investments in technology partners, across the three themes of Digital Banking & Lifestyle, Trade & Supply Chains and Digital Assets, enabled by Artificial Intelligence, Web3/Blockchain, ESG and Quantum. He has also created an ecosystem of partners and investors, plus laid the foundation for a culture of innovation via intrapreneurship.

Alex is a 30-year veteran of the banking industry and belongs to a select group of financial services leaders who have leveraged their banking backgrounds to build fintech ecosystems that are changing the industry, driven by a purpose to rewire the DNA in banking and to reconcile financial services with societal expectations. The Digital Banker named Alex as Digital Assets Leader of the Year.

At SC Ventures, he’s leading a platform of venture builders, investors, plus fintech and intrapreneur accelerators to help people on their journeys to becoming entrepreneurs. This provides optionality and new sources of revenues for the Bank by building alternative business models — it is this unique combination that differentiates SC Ventures from the landscape of venture capital firms, accelerators, and incubators, as SC Ventures is now expanding its diverse venture and investment portfolio. The Fintech Bridge is a platform for fintech engagement, and connects startups, investors, and accelerators with a community of over 13,000+ members across the globe. The intrapreneur program supports a pipeline of new ideas and the right intrapreneurs to lead them.

Alex joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2012 initially as Group Head, Wholesale Banking Geographies and later served as Global Head, Transaction Banking. Prior to that, Alex was at Deutsche Bank for 12 years, where he held roles including Global Head of Lending and Corporate Banking Coverage and prior to that Head Global Banking (IBD) Coverage APAC. He started his banking career at Credit Suisse, where he held roles in the Securitization Group, and prior to that Derivatives & Structured Products. He holds an engineering degree from ETH Zurich, and an MBA from INSEAD. Alex sits on various boards across SC Ventures’ portfolio of ventures and investments.
